Nordic Esprit 37 s/v Impulsive

Here’s one of Bob Perry’s favorite sweet sailing designs. Sporting Perry’s prettiest stern, Impulsive is a rare Nordic built Esprit 37. Both Nordic built and later Uniflite Esprit models are usually blister free, avoiding the fire retardent used in the Valiant 40s that caused so much blister grief.

Latest improvements include new engine mounts, hoses, air filter, insulation, and most important – the new 40-gallon AL fuel tank built in Bellingham from the original drawings. Electrical Overhaul with new Victron Smart IP43 12Volt/50 Amp Battery Charger, Victron Galvanic Isolater, High-output Balmar 120Amp Alternator, and 460Ah of Lithium batteries represent a modern, offshore-ready DC system. Modern Navigation & Safety – the integrated 9” B&G Chartplotter, Icom VHF, and Class B AIS Transponder provide turn-key safety compliance.               Old deck diamond-pattern TreadmasterTM removed and KiwiGrip painted in original deck pattern this summer!

Description

In profile Impulsive has a straight stem, fin keel, skeg-hung rudder, gently sprung sheer, and canoe stern. The hull underbody is round with a gentle turn-of-the-bilge. Forward sections are V-shaped, to soften pounding while midship are shaped like a wineglass. The aft hull sections are slightly flatten for better speed. The led ballast is externally mounted lead with SS J-hook keelbolts. A low trunk-cabin fills the middle half of deck. The exposed aft cockpit is surrounded by a coaming. The vessel’s topsides are white gelcoat with a baby blue cove-stripe, decks and cabin-sides are white with just painted non-skid, the boot-top is navy blue, and bottom is black antifouling Seahawk-2025 painted 7/25.

Construction

Impulsive was built for Valiant Yachts by Nordic Yachts. The hull is reportedly hand-laid with four layers of 1.5 oz mat alternating with eight layers of 24 oz woven roving. The ballast is attached to the hull with 5/8″ stainless steel J-bolts that are cast into the lead. The deck is a fiberglass-sandwich construction with balsa core. The hull-to-deck joint is shoebox style construction.

Interior

The vessel is laid-out from bow to stern as follows: farthest forward is the anchor locker accessed through the forward cabin. In the forward cabin is a raised V-berth with stowage beneath. An enclosed head and shower are aft of the V-berth and to port. On starboard is built-in cabinetry for stowage. The mainmast passes through deck to a mast-step in the center bilge. The main salon lies midships with an L-shaped dinette to port, galley to port-aft, a straight settee on starboard, and navigation station and quarterberth to starboard-aft. Centerline steps lead to the cockpit and can be removed for engine access.

Mast Rigging Sails & Winches

Impulsive is a masthead sloop. The painted, extruded aluminum, single-spreader mast is supported with primary rod rigging and 1×19 stainless steel wire lower shrouds. Six wire shrouds were replaced in 2013. Stainless steel chainplates pass through deck and are secured below. The stainless steel stem fitting is externally mounted while the backstay is attached to a stainless steel chainplate that passes through deck aft of the cockpit. The vessel can be cutter-rigged with a solent stay. The heads’l is roller furling. Control lines are led to the cockpit. Elvstrom Main, w/ 2-Reefs, Full Battens, Slab reefing, and Garhauer Rigid Vang! 135% Genoa for ProFurl, 110%, Detached Forestay for Storm Jib, Top-down furling Code-0, plus older Yellow/Orange Spinnaker. Anderson 28 ST Halyard mast Winch, Adl. Halyard Winch on Mast for jib, 2) Lewmar 48ST Sheet Winches, Lewmar 30 and 40 Trim Winches. With the 45# Rocna Vulcan Anchor on the bow roller, you know this is a boat that wants to be “out there”. A Monitor Windvane, unmounted to save moorage costs, is included in the sale.

The current owner has done an impressive refit and upgrades, but plans have changed and someone is going to get great sailing boat! Let’s sort schedules, and get you aboard soon. Thanks, Lee
